1.6.5. Additional system of passive safety (SRS) – inflatable safety cushions

The car is equipped with additional system of passive safety (inflatable safety cushions) SRS. It is possible to determine existence of this system by an inscription of "SRS AIR BAG" which is available on a cover of a safety cushion in a steering wheel and on an overlay of the panel from the forward passenger over a ware box.

The additional system of passive safety of SRS of Hyundai firm consists of the safety cushions established under slips in the middle of a steering wheel and in the panel from the forward passenger over a ware box. A task of this system is ensuring additional safety of the driver and/or the forward passenger in addition to system of seat belts at face-to-face blows of average or big force.

NOTE Surely familiarize with information on SRS system on the labels located on a reverse side of a sun-protection peak from the driver and in a ware box.

The SRS system is developed in addition and for work together with three-dot seat belts of the driver and the forward passenger and is not replacement for them. Therefore, being in the car, be always fastened by seat belts. It is necessary to consider that safety cushions work at rather strong face-to-face blows and only once. Therefore it is necessary to be fastened by seat belts always.

Safety cushions do not work at weak blows, when for protection of passengers enough the fastened seat belts.

Safety cushions are not calculated on operation at back, lateral blows and at a car perevorachivaniye. Besides, safety cushions will not work at face-to-face blow on speeds below a certain threshold speed of the car (fig. 1.126).

Do not replace independently disconnected elements of SRS system and do not allow blows on them: it can lead to traumas.

The driver should adjust a seat so that to be as it is possible further from a safety cushion, but to have convenient access to all governing bodies the car. Do not bend and do not sit too close to a safety cushion when the car moves is can lead to serious traumas at a pillow raskryvaniye.

Do not put any subjects on or about modules of safety cushions – on a steering wheel, the dashboard and the panel before the forward passenger, they can injure at a raskryvaniye of safety cushions.

If safety cushions worked, they should be replaced at service station of the official dealer of Hyundai.

Do not allow blows on wires and components of additional system of passive safety (SRS) is can lead to unexpected operation of safety cushions or a system exit out of operation.

Installation of any holding adaptations for children (children's seats) on forward sitting is not allowed. In case of failure disclosure of an inflatable safety cushion of the forward passenger can injure or lead to death sitting in the holding adaptation (children's sitting) the child. Do not allow children to be in space before a forward seat. If on forward sitting the adult child sits, it owes a life is fastened by a seat belt, and the seat should be removed back as it is possible further.

For ensuring the maximum protection at all types of collisions all passengers, including the driver, should be always fastened by seat belts irrespective of safety cushion existence on this sitting to minimize risk of receiving a trauma or death in case of a road accident (failure).

For ensuring protection at collision filling of safety cushions by SRS gas occurs very quickly and to big force. If the passenger will not fasten a seat belt, the safety cushion can strongly hit it that can serve as the reason serious or even a deadly trauma.

The additional system of passive safety (SRS) includes the following components:

– face-to-face inflatable safety cushion of the driver assembled;

– face-to-face inflatable safety cushion of the forward passenger assembled;

– control lamp of SRS (SRI) system;

– electronic SRS control unit (additional system of passive safety) (SRSCM).

The electronic SRS control unit (additional system of passive safety) (SRSCM) constantly watches all components of system when the ignition key is in the situation "ON" ("Incl.") and defines, whether rather strong there was a face-to-face or okolofrontalny blow to open a safety cushion (fig. 1.127).

The control lamp of SRS (SRI) system on the dashboard blinks about 6 спосле ignition key turn in the situation "ON" (Incl.) or after engine start then dies away.

Inflatable safety cushions are located in the middle of a steering wheel and in the panel opposite to a seat of the forward passenger over a ware box. When the electronic SRS control unit (additional system of passive safety) determines (SRSCM) face-to-face blow of sufficient force, it automatically opens safety cushions.

During disclosure extending at a naduvaniye gas the safety cushion beats out a cover which breaks on a special seam (fig. 1.128).

Completely opened safety cushion in a combination with correctly fastened seat belt slows down advance of the driver or the forward passenger, thereby reducing risk of a travmirovaniye of the head and a thorax.

ATTENTION Do not establish and do not put any extraneous subjects (a coaster, the holder for cartridges, a sticker, etc.) on the forward panel over a ware (perchatochny) box on the cars equipped with a safety cushion of the forward passenger. At operation of a safety cushion of the forward passenger such subjects can be thrown out in salon of the car and put heavy traumas.

After complete filling by gas the safety cushion starts to go down at once, providing the driver the forward review.

ATTENTION At operation of an inflatable safety cushion of SRS sharp loud cotton is heard and a smoke and dust (powder) quantity is allocated. These phenomena do not represent danger and are normal. However, the dust (powder) developed at filling of pillows by gas, can lead to irritation of skin. After operation of inflatable safety cushions surely wash up the person and hands with soap and warm water.

The SRS system works, only when the ignition key is in the situation "ON" ("Incl."). If the control lamp of SRS does not light up or burns constantly after a blinking approximately during 6 спосле ignition key turn in the situation "ON" ("Incl."), after start of the engine or lights up during car movement, it indicates malfunction of SRS system.

Before replacement of a safety lock or a wire detachment from the plug of the storage battery turn the ignition key in the situation "LOCK" ("Blocking") or take out a key from the ignition lock. Never take out the SRS system fuse if the ignition key is in the situation "ON" ("Incl."), the control lamp of SRS otherwise will light up.

The car can be equipped with lateral inflatable safety cushions for each forward seat. The lateral safety cushion provides protection of the driver and the forward passenger in addition to seat belts. Lateral safety cushions are calculated only for operation in certain cases at lateral blows, depending on force and a corner of blow, speed of the car and a blow place. Lateral safety cushions are not calculated on operation in all cases of lateral blows (fig. 1.130).
